Sipos Scores Career-High in Lady Privateer Loss

NEW ORLEANS - The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak to the University of New Orleans on Friday night, picking up a 83-47 victory at the Human Performance Center.

Aja Gibson and Chelsea Hix led SLU (4-0) with 12 points apiece as the Lady Lions won in their series against UNO (0-3) for the first time since a December 2006 contest at the HPC.

Kelli Jenkins and Latoria Holder chipped in 11 points apiece as SLU shot 45.3 percent from the field in the contest.

Lady Privateers guard Mirjam Sipos scored a career-high 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished three assists in the losing effort. Megan Buckley and Spring Drake had nine points apiece while Britney Blanchard added eight to the UNO scoring tally.

Buckley led the Lady Privateers in the first half, scoring the first seven points of the game for the hosts including the team's first field goal on a three-point shot with 6:42 remaining in the opening half. SLU entered the break with a 47-15 advantage.

The second half was the team's most explosive offensive performance of the year.

UNO scored 32 points to SLU's 36 in the second 20 minutes of the game, shooting 37.1 percent from the field after a 2 of 19 struggle in the first half. Sipos came to life out of the halftime break, shooting 5 of 10 from the field and putting in 13 points.

The Lady Privateers will head to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday against Southern Mississippi.
