HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. - The
University of New Orleans finished their 2010 campaign with a pair of
wins on Tuesday, defeating Rust 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-22) and Stillman
College 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) at McMillan Gym.
The wins extended UNO's winning streak to five
matches allowed the Privateers to finish with a 10-9 record and make
head coach
Kim Young the fourth coach in school history to begin their
tenure on the Lakefront with a winning record.
In the opening match, UNO defeated Rust in
straight sets for the second time in two weeks. The loss was the first
for the host Bearcats this season in nine home matches.
Kaitlin Hatcher totaled 13 kills with
Edina Dobi adding 11. Hatcher nearly missed a double-double by adding nine
digs, which played a large role in the Bearcats' offense struggling to a
.070 hitting percentage.
Cassidy Asebroek tallied
27 assists with
Julia Hopfer adding another seven.
Rust was led by Kyerra Woods' six kills and
Clarissa Bradley's 10 assists. The Bearcats' nearly pulled an upset in
the third set coming back from a 10-2 deficit to take a 21-19 lead as
UNO struggled to a .061 hitting percentage. The
Privateers would come through at the end and close out the match in
straight sets.
In the nightcap, UNO kept the Stillman (10-15)
offense off-base for the entire match in order to pull out the victory.
The Lady Tigers hit an even .000 in the match.
Hatcher posted a double-double after narrowly
missing it in the first match, pounding down 13 kills with her 11 digs.
Dobi had 11 digs to go along with
Lauren Massulla's 10 to assist in the
defensive efforts.
Ashley Henderson had nine
kills in the match.
Stillman was led by Anjelica Nixon's seven kills.
The Privateers will take the remainder of the
semester off before hitting the court again this spring for a
several-week practice session.
