Box Score NEW ORLEANS - Edina Dobi posted career-highs in kills and blocks as the University of New Orleans defeated Loyola 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 26-24, 25-16) on Saturday at the Human Performance Center in front of 253 fans.
Dobi pounded down 20 kills on just 35 attacks as UNO (3-6) hit .209 for the match. The middle blocker also had a hand on nine blocks as the Privateers stuffed 11 LU (7-6) attacks.
Kaitlin Hatcher notched her second double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Lauren Massula paced the Privateer back row efforts with 13 digs. Alexis Daigle rounded out the career-highs with 12 digs with Cassidy Asebroek narrowly missing her career top mark with 46 assists.
Gina Gill totaled 17 kills for LU (7-5). Kailey Tuthill added another 10 kills with Samantha Worsham dishing out 35 assists and Amanda Oldani leading the way with a match-high 14 digs.
In the first set, UNO trailed 23-16 before knotting the score up at 23 after a 7-0 run on Massulla's serve. Asebroek had two kills during the run with Massula picking up an ace. Loyola had two sets points before closing out the set 27-25 on a Dobi attack error.
The Wolfpack hit .214 to UNO's .149 in the second set with Gil pounding down six kills. It was not enough however as the Privateers battled through eight ties and five lead changes in the second set before UNO emerged with a 25-23 victory. Dobi and Hatcher had five kills apiece in the frame.
UNO's hitting picked up in the third set as the team pounded 16 kills on 24 attempts with four errors with a .462 hitting percentage. Kayla McGee had the set-winning kill as the Privateers emerged from 13 ties and seven leads for a 26-24 win.
In the fourth set, the Privateer hitting slipped to .135, but it was the UNO defense that stepped up, holding LU to a -0.030 hitting percentage. Dobi reached her career-high in kills during the frame as UNO closed out the match with a 25-16 victory.
The Privateers will return to the court for five matches this week, starting Tuesday at 7 p.m. against McNeese State. The team will then compete in the Birmingham Southern Fall Classic with two matches on Friday and Saturday.
