Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of New Orleans volleyball team opened up the Birmingham Southern Fall Classic with a pair of 3-0 victories on Friday evening.
UNO (5-7) opened their first day of competition at the tournament by defeating Faulkner 3-0 (25-22, 25-8, 25-22) before following it with a victory over Dillard by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 29-27) score.
The wins improved the Privateers' record against non-NCAA Division I competition to 4-0 on the year as the squad competes as an NCAA Division I Independent this year on their route to Division III.
Faulkner dropped to 9-7 on the year with the loss to UNO, after defeating Xavier (La.) 3-0 earlier in the day.
In the contest,
Edina Dobi totaled 13 kills to pace the Privateer attack.
Cassidy Asebroek had 22 assists with
Lauren Massulla notching 13 digs.
The loss for Dillard was their first against a four-year institution as the Bleu Devils entered the tournament with a 5-0 record.
The nightcap featured eight kills and zero attack errors for
Kayla McGee in 15 attack attempts. Asebroek had five kills in 10 attempts with no errors in addition to her 33 assists.
Dobi led the attack with 17 kills with Massulla once more topping UNO with 11 digs.
UNO will play crosstown rival Loyola at 4 p.m. on Saturday for the second time this year before challenging Wallace State in an exhibition match at 6:30 p.m. The Privateers defeated Loyola 3-1 last weekend at the Human Performance Center.
