Second Half Spurt Sends Dillard Streaking Past Lady Privateers

NEW ORLEANS - Dillard opened the second half with a 14-0 run on way to defeating the University of New Orleans 78-39 on Thursday night at the Human Performance.

DU (9-9) received a game-high 11 rebounds from Priscilla Booker, who rounded out a double-double with 12 points. Three other players scored in double-figures for the Bleu Devils including Jazmmin Smith, who scored a game-high 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting.

Mirjam Sipos put together her third double-double in four games with 10 points and 11 rebounds UNO (1-16). The Lady Privateers received eight points from Britney Blanchard, all in the first half.

The Bleu Devils jumped out to a 10-2 lead despite making just 2 of 8 shots to open the contest. UNO cut the lead down to six at 13-7 on a Sipos three-pointer with 14:09 remaining in the first half.

After their cold start, DU recovered to make 10 of their next 21 shots to go on a 23-10 game-changing run that would give the visitors an 18-point advantage at 37-19. The Bleu Devils headed into the break leading 38-21.

DU opened the second half with 14 straight points to take a 52-21 lead with 14:23 remaining in the contest. A pair of Kendracia Valmont free throws ended the Bleu Devils' spurt.

The visitors maintained their lead of over 30 points for the remainder of the contest, outscoring UNO 40-18 after the half.

UNO will close their home slate on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. against Savannah State at Lakefront Arena.
