Smith, Vail Lead Privateer Golfers on Opening Day at Indian Bayou

ROUND ONE RESULTS

DESTIN, Fla. – Hunter Smith and Steve Vail each posted a 2-over 74 to lead the University of New Orleans golf team efforts on the first day of the Indian Bayou Classic on Monday.

With their 2-over score Smith and Vail are currently in a tie for 9^th in the individual standings, just one shot out of a four-player logjam for fifth place at 1-over.

Vail's 74 equaled the best round on the season for the freshman from Australia.

Saint Leo's Nick Brothers is the individual leader after the opening round, leading the field by three shots after firing a 3-under 69.

UNO's Luke David is in 39^th after a 5-over 77 with Layne Sims in a tie for 68^th after shooting a 10-over 82. Trey Neck posted a 17-over 89 to round out the Privateer quintet in a tie for 82^nd.

The top four scores for the Privateers contributed to a 19-over 307, placing the squad in 11^th place after the opening round. UNO Is one shot behind a four-team group featuring Shorter, Millsaps, Southeastern Oklahoma and Columbus State tied in 7^th at 18-over.

Defending tournament champion and host North Alabama is at 5-over to lead the tournament at the halfway point. Saint Leo is four shots behind with a 9-over score as a squad Montevallo in third at 14-over.

The 16-team field will hit the golf course again on Tuesday for another 18 holes.
