Hansen Makes Return with Team-Best Six Kills

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State ended a three-match Gulf South Conference losing streak with a 3-0 (25-6, 25-16, 25-18) victory over the University of New Orleans on Friday night at The Complex.

Katie Onushko led VSU (11-7, 3-3 GSC) with nine kills in the match with Chelsea Logan right behind her with eight kills. Ashley Lala and Hope Ripsam totaled 16 and 14 assists, respectively as the Blazers posted a .333 hitting percentage for the match.

The match featured the return of Laila Hansen after a three-match hiatus for UNO (2-12, 0-6 GSC). Hansen made the most of her return with a team-high of six kills and a team-leading .267 hitting percentage.

Hansen was not alone on the offensive end as four different players tallied four kills for the Privateers.

The quartet included Jasmyne Walker, Tory Hearn, Evelyn Kovacs and Elena Villar. Ryan Hamilton distributed 21 assists and Jessie Mouton handled the back row with 13 digs.

UNO bounced back from a poor hitting opening frame and improved with each passing set, hitting .152 in the second stanza and .161 in the third.

VSU served out 12 aces in the match, playing a critical role in altering the course of the match. Tania Tauilili and Lala led the Blazers by pounding out four service aces apiece.

The Privateers will continue their two-match swing through Georgia with a 1 p.m. CT contest against West Georgia on Saturday. UWG fell 3-0 to West Florida on Friday night.
