Hamilton Nets Double-Double in UNO Setback to Valdosta State

Dutchtown Product Puts Up 16 Assists, 10 Digs for Privateers

NEW ORLEANS – Former Mount Carmel standout Ashley Lala distributed 28 assists to lead Valdosta State to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) on Friday night at the Lakefront Arena Auxiliary Gym.

Playing before a crowd of family and friends, Lala's play at the setter position made the most of her homecoming, enabling VSU (16-16, 5-8 Gulf South Conference) to hit .219 for the match.

Chelsea Logan posted 12 kills and a team-best .357 attack percentage for the Blazers while Tania Taulili and Katie Onushko added seven kills apiece.

Leading UNO (2-21, 0-13) was the freshman pair of Elena Villar and Laila Hansen with matching six-kill efforts against VSU. Tory Hearn added another three kills for the Privateers.

Rounding out the UNO efforts on the night was a double-double performance from setter Ryan Hamilton. The Dutchtown product put up 16 assists and added a team-high 10 digs.

During the match, VSU led from open to close in the first and third set. Two lead changes and four ties were part of the proceedings in the middle frame for the squads with the Blazers' .225 hitting percentage in the stanza too much to overcome.

UNO will close out its season on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. with a match against West Georgia at the Lakefront Arena Auxiliary Gym. The squad will honor its seniors Evelyn Kovacs and Samantha Hauck roughly 10 minutes before first serve.
