UNO Alum Toledo Advances to PGA Q-School Final Stage

First of atleast two major tournaments in November for former Privateer

Toledo Places Sixth to Qualify for PGA Q-School Final Stage (Nov. 18, 2011)

HUMBLE, Texas - Jose Toledo will get his chance to play for a spot on the PGA Tour after finishing in a tie for sixth place at a PGA Q-School School second stage event on Friday at Redstone Golf Club.

The former UNO golfer posted a 2-over 74 and finished at 8-under 280 for the tournament. Toledo had entered the day at 10-under and tied for second in a field of 74 golfers.

Toledo's four round result placed him three shots ahead of the cut as only the top 20 golfers and ties advanced to the PGA Q-School Final Stage to be held at PGA West beginning Nov. 30.

Former Georgia standout Kevin Kisner topped the field with a 17-under 271 for the tournament. Other qualifiers from the Humble location include former PGA winners Shaun Micheel, Jeff Maggert and Rich Beem.

Prior to competing at the PGA Q-School Final Stage event, Toledo is scheduled to represent Guatemala in the Omega World Cup event alongside teammate Pablo Acuna.

UNO Alum Toledo Now 18 Holes from Advancing to Q-School Finals (Nov. 17, 2011)

HUMBLE, Texas – Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo is 18 holes away from securing himself a position in the final stage of PGA Tour Q-School after another strong result on Thursday.

Playing in the third round of a Q-School second stage event at Redstone Golf Club in the Houston area, Toledo posted a 1-under 71. The result was the Guatemalan's third straight round under-par for the tournament and places him in a tie for third place at 10-under 206.

Toledo entered the day in a tie for third and now will head to the final round in a tie for second alongside Mathias Gronberg, who has four European Tour wins to his credit. The duo will be in the final pairing alongside leader Kevin Kisner, who leads by four shots.

With 18 holes to play, Toledo must stay within the top 20 and ties to advance to the final stage of PGA Q-School, which will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 5 at PGA West in California. The current 'cut line' is at 4-under par in the field of 74 golfers.
 

Toledo Shoots 5-Under, Now Third at PGA Q-School Second Stage Event (Nov. 16, 2011)

HUMBLE, Texas - Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo continued his climb up the leaderboard at a PGA Tour Q-School second stage event on Wednesday.

Playing on the course at Redstone Golf Club for a second straight day, Toledo shot a 5-under 67 to move into a tie for third place 9-under 135. The Guatemala native carded a 4-under 68 during Tuesday's first round.

Halfway through the tournament, Toledo is just three strokes off the pace set by Kevin Kisner, a former Georgia standout that has a 2010 Nationwide Tour win to his credit. Kisner is at 12-under 132 through two rounds with Doug Barron a shot back at 11-under.

Toledo and the remaining competitors in the field of 75 are attempting to finish in the top 20 positions after four rounds. Those individuals will advance to the final stage of PGA Q-School at the end of November.

Toledo Goes Under Par as He Continues Journey for PGA Tour Membership (Nov. 15, 2011)
HUMBLE, Texas - Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo carded a 4-under 68 and is in eighth place after one round of the PGA Tour's Q-School second stage at Redstone Golf Club in Humble.

Toledo put together five birdies on the back nine and is four shots off the pace set by Kevin Kisner, who shot a 8-under 64.

A total of 45 players are under par as a field of 75 golfers compete for roughly 20 spots in the PGA Q-School Final Stage to be held at the end of November.

Toledo will tee it off Wednesday morning in the event's second round.

Toledo Continues Quest for PGA Card, Competes in Second Stage Event in Texas (Nov. 14, 2011)

HUMBLE, Texas - Jose Toledo will represent Guatemala at the end of November in the Omega World Cup, but his primary focus this week will be advancing out of the second stage of PGA Q-School at Redstone Golf Club.

Toledo advanced to the second stage after tying for 10th at a Q-School opening stage event at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas in late Oct.

The appearance this week in the second stage is Toledo's second in two years.

Roughly 20 players will advance out of the event to the final stage, which takes place over six days at the end of November at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament and Stadium course at PGA West.

Competition will be stepped up a notch from the first stage as a pair of PGA Championship winners in Rich Beem (2002) and Shaun Micheel (2003) are the featured golfers in the field.  Other top golfers in the field include 3-time PGA Tour event winners Jeff Maggert and Woody Austin, plus another PGA Tour event winner in Ted Purdy.

Toledo will tee off at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday with former University of New Mexico standout Charlie Beljan and Air Force alum Jarett Hamamoto. The trio is also paired on Wednesday for the second round of the event.

Following this week's competition, Toledo will continue his active November at the Omega World Cup.
The field in China includes top teams from England (Ian Poulter and Justin Rose), Germany (Martin Maymer and Alex Cejka), Ireland (Rory McIlory and Graeme McDowell) and the United States (Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland).
