UNO Holds Serve in Defeating Mobile

Men, Women Win in Straight Sets in All Contested Matches

NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams had no problem defeating Mobile on Saturday afternoon with the men picking up a 7-0 victory and the women following suit with a 5-2 victory at the University Tennis Center.

The UNO men improved to 4-2 on the season while sending Mobile (3-1) to its first loss.

The Privateers jumped on the Rams by claiming all three doubles' matches. Vinay Kamineni and Abdelrahman Zaki were 8-1 winners at No. 2 with Rohit Chivukula and Oliver Grimbly off the court shortly thereafter with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Benjamin Bouhana and Hossam Meligy clinched the sweep of the doubles' action with an 8-5 at No. 1 over Enzo Correa and Jesus Urmeneta.

In singles' play, the UNO men did not drop a single set in claiming all six matches. Mobile claimed no more than four games in each of the straight set victories by the Privateers, which featured their first dual play win of the season by Rohit Chivukula and Oliver Grimbly at the No. 5 and No. 6 courts, respectively.

On the women's side, the shorthanded Privateers (2-3) won each of the contested matches against Mobile (3-3).

Kozue Matsumoto and Amber Garza teamed up for an 8-4 win at the No. 1 doubles' court over Rachel Hartly and Claudia Borges with Kristina Martic and Sofija Karalic rolling to an 8-0 victory at No. 2 over Kari Williams and Treya Smith.

Singles' play was not much different with each member of the roster winning in straight sets. Martic faced the greatest challenge with a 7-6 (5), 10-7 victory at No. 2 over Hartley. The match was shortened to a super tiebreaker in the second set since all the other matches had already concluded.

The UNO women's tennis team will continue their weekend on Sunday against Rutgers at 11 a.m. The men's team will join their female counterparts on Mar. 18 for a dual match against Spring Hill, beginning at 12 p.m. at the UTC.
