NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans volleyball team will return to the court after a one-week layoff when they travel across the street to play Southern-New Orleans on Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside The Castle.

UNO (1-4) ended a four-match skid to start the season in their last contest, defeating Division I Alcorn State by a 3-0 score at the Human Performance Center.

In the victory, head coach Kim Young's squad found an offensive rhythm, pounding down 43 kills and notching a season-high with a .323 attack percentage.

Freshman middle blocker Jasmyne Walker played a large role in the offensive exploits by the Privateers against the Braves, tallying 14 kills in just 20 attacks with two errors for a season-best .600 attack percentage.

Through five matches, the attack has centered on Walker and her fellow freshman Laila Hansen.

The duo ranks 1-2 on the squad in kills per set and attack percentage with Hansen's 3.62 kills per set pacing UNO while Walker hits at a team-best .315 clip.

With SUNO (3-1) ranking second in the NAIA in service aces with 6.69 per set, the Privateer defense will have to step up to the plate on Wednesday.

Countering the big serve of the Knights will be libero Jessie Mouton, who leads UNO with 4.62 digs per set and is one of five players on the roster averaging at least two digs per frame. Outside hitter Elena Villar is second in the category with 2.81 digs with defensive specialist Rebecca Lacey third at 2.62.

On a three-match winning streak entering the match, SUNO looks to the NAIA's top server in Christal Hollins (1.92 aces/set) to lead the way. Hollins also paces the Knights in digs with 2.7 per frame while Zipporah Washington is the top offensive threat with three kills per set to accompany a .342 hitting percentage.

UNO defeated SUNO 3-0 last year at the Lakefront Arena Auxiliary Gym in the first-ever match between the two schools. The two teams will meet again on Nov. 2 at the HPC.
