UNO Volleyball Begins GSC Slate at UWF Tuesday

Privateers to Face Top Three Teams in Preseason Poll over Five-Day Period

Live Stats & Audio

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of New Orleans volleyball program will get a taste of the best the Gulf South Conference has to offer, beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m. against West Florida.

Though UNO (2-5) does not count towards the league standings this year, the Privateers will play within a five day period, the top three teams from the GSC's preseason poll.

UWF (4-7) has won the last three league titles and was picked to repeat for a fourth consecutive season. Friday's opponent North Alabama and Saturday's foe Christian Brothers were picked second and third, respectively.

UNO heads into Tuesday's affair looking to get back in the win column. The Privateers fell 3-1 to Centenary on Saturday after defeating opposition from Alcorn State and Southern (N.O.) in straight sets in their previous matches.

To get going again, UNO will look to establish a solid serve and pass game that will generate attack opportunities for top hitters Laila Hansen and Jasmyne Walker, who are averaging 3.65 and 2.70 kills per set, respectively.

Return errors have plagued the offense at times as the Privateers have totaled 51 miscues in returning serve compared to just 33 for opponents.

The host UWF has won 2 of 3 games entering Tuesday including a sweep of in-region foe Saint Leo on the road this Saturday. The Argos have played four ranked foes to date and came away with one victory, a 3-2 road win at No. 14 Indianapolis.

The two-pronged attack for UWF is led Autumn Duyn and Lindsay Homme. Duyn has tallied 3.24 kills per set with Homme contributing 3.14 kills a frame for head coach Melissa Wolter's explosive offense.

Live stats and audio of Tuesday's match will be available on GoArgos.com.
