UNO Volleyball Falls 3-0 to UAH on Lakefront Arena Floor

Privateers Return to Action at 2 p.m. on Saturday vs UWA

NEW ORLEANS – Alabama-Huntsville spoiled the University of New Orleans volleyball program's return to the main floor at Lakefront Arena, defeating the hosts 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-15) on Friday night.

The win improved UAH's record to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in Gulf South Conference play. The Chargers were led offensively by the duo of Jessie Ruple and Carrie Brown, who totaled six kills apiece.

Kelly Wilson had 18 assists in just two sets of action for UAH with Kaeli McCaghren posting a team-high 13 digs.

The loss was the fifth in a row for UNO (2-9, 0-4 GSC). Elena Villar had a match-high seven kills to lead the Privateer efforts with Ryan Hamilton dishing out 12 assists in the contest.

Jessie Mouton led all defensive players with 21 digs, helping UNO keep UAH below a .300 hitting percentage for the contest.

UNO scored the first two points of the opening set before UAH scored 15 of the next 16 points for a commanding 15-3 lead. A balanced contest broke out as the teams split the next 20 points with the Chargers gaining a 25-13 set victory.

The momentum from the first set frame carried over for the Privateers, who jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. As was the case in the first set, UAH would bounce back with a significant rally.

Ahead 8-7, the Chargers scored nine straight points before a Cameron Lowe kill ended the spurt. UAH finished off the set with a 25-10 victory and entered the break with a 2-0 advantage.

The third set was very similar in nature from the second with UNO opening up with a lead before the Chargers knotted the set at seven. UAH scored 10 of the next 12 points to gain control and did not relinquish the lead on way to a 25-15 match-deciding win.

The Privateers will return to the main floor of Lakefront Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday as they host West Alabama.
