NATCHITOCHES, La. - Two members of the New Orleans women's tennis team dropped three-set matches in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Lady Demon Invitational.
Soledad Arroyo reached the semifinals of 'Flight 2' by receiving a walkover win over the injured Justyna Krol of ULM. Arroyo made her first court appearance of the day in the afternoon's semifinal round, falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 to Northwestern State's Andrea Nedorostova.
Joining Arroyo in the semifinals was teammate
Marta Sans, who competed in the consolation semifinals of 'Flight 1'. Sans advanced to the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Grambling's Georgia Stephenson before a 1-6, 6-3, 10-5 loss to Sam Houston State's Maddie Mortimore of Sam Houston State in the afternoon.
In the only other completed match for the Privateers on Saturday,
Fanny Benincasa was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Louisiana-Lafayette's Nicole Breaux in a 'Flight 2' consolation quarterfinal match.
UNO's
Kristina Martic was also scheduled to compete on Saturday, but did not take the court. Martic had retired from a doubles' match on Friday due to injury.
Sunday's schedule of matches features just one appearance by the Privateers, who will be represented by Benincasa and Sans in the 'Flight 2' doubles' championship.
The UNO duo will take on Mackenzie Oskin of Southern Miss and her teammate Alessandra Pennessi of Lamar. The match is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
