NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will open the Southland Tournament on Sunday afternoon when they take on the 1-seed McNeese Cowgirls at the Thompson Family Tennis Center in Beaumont. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Privateers finished the regular season at 8-10 and went 2-7 in Southland play. New Orleans notched wins in Southland play against Lamar and Southeastern and owned the tiebreaker over Lamar for the final spot in the tournament.
Fleur Sprengers and
Kateryna Kalistratova were both named All-Southland in singles earlier in the week. Sprengers finished her sophomore regular season campaign at 14-3 while Kalistratova wound up 13-2.
The Privateers lost 5-2 to McNeese in the regular season at the Privateer Tennis Center. Sprengers and Kalistratova both engineered singles wins on the day against the Southland regular season champion.
The women's team is looking to advance out of the first round for the first time since 2022 when they defeated UIW in the opening round.
McNeese finished 21-1 in the regular season with their only loss coming to Tarleton State. The Cowgirls finished undefeated in conference play (9-0) and they're on an active winning streak of 16 consecutive matches.
Three Cowgirls made the All-Southland First Team in Ana Hollweg, Erica Hagi and Elena Morales. McNeese has conceded at least two points in every conference match this season.
