NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 dual to Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State on Friday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
The win completed a two-match sweep through the Crescent City for a MSU (6-7) team that knocked off nationally-ranked Tulane earlier in the week. The Bulldogs headed into singles' action with a 1-0 lead after sweeping UNO (7-2) in doubles' play.
Alexandria Perper and Naomi Tran teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 over the Privateer duo of
Marta Sans and
Manuela Gomez.
Juliet Labarthe and
Fanny Benincasa dropped their first doubles' match of the season at the No. 2 court by an 8-1 score with
Sofija Karalic and
Kristina Martic falling 8-3 at the No. 3 court.
In singles' play, MSU won in straight sets with the lone exception of the No. 2 court. UNO got a strong effort at the No. 2 position from Martic, who rallied from a set down to force a 10-point tiebreaker, falling 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 to Olesya Tsiqvintseva.
Another notable performance was turned in by Sans at the No. 1 position as she pushed the No. 119 ranked Perper in the first set before beating defeated a 6-4, 6-0.
UNO will have several days off before returning to the court at the UTC against Central Oklahoma on Wednesday, Mar. 21 at 12 p.m. Admission is free to all home matches.
