BOSSIER CITY, La. – The University of New Orleans women's golf team concluded its 2011-12 season with a sixth place finish at the Hal Sutton Invitational on Tuesday, improving its team score by 17 strokes in the process.
The 17-stroke improvement from 509 to 492 continued a trend set during the course of the campaign in which the UNO squad bettered their cumulative result from round one to two. The two round score of 1001 by the Privateers placed the squad off the pace set by Texas-Tyler, who maintained their lead from the opening day and finished with a 638.
Mia Hock was the top golfer on the day for UNO, carding a 113 en route to a two-round result of 230. The score placed the freshman in 29
th place.
Emily Ziegler maintained her spot in 30
th place from a day before by carding a 123, completing her two rounds of golf with a score of 245
Helping lower the scores were
Rosine Pema Sanga and
Emily Boudreaux, who each posted career-low rounds with results of 123 and 133, respectively. Pema Sanga finished 31
st overall with a two-round total of 255 with Boudreaux one spot behind her with a 271.
The individual medalist honors were shared by Sarah Murray of UT-Tyler and Stephanie Robertson of Jackson State. The two golfers shot a 10-over 154 for the tournament to edge out Murray's teammates Danica Weddle and Jordan Sloane by a shot.
This week's tournament completes the 2011-12 season for the Privateer women's golf program, which was reinstated last fall. The women's golf program has previously been suspended in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina prior to its return this year.
