MAGNOLIA, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's golf team will tee off in the Southland Conference Championships, which start Tuesday at the High Meadow Country Club. The course, which is a par-72 measuring 6,258 yards in total length, will host the Southland Championships for the first time.
The Privateers are coming off their latest outing, an 11th place finish out of 12 teams in the Husky Invitational. New Orleans is led by
Brenda Gonzalez who is currently ranked 24th in the Southland heading into the tournament. Gonzalez is also the fourth-highest ranked freshman. Gonzalez has two top-ten finishes including the opening event of the spring at the Le Triomphe Country Club Invitational.
A young group in total, New Orleans has four freshmen on the roster. Fellow first year collegiate athletes,
Florence King,
Emily Pellerin, and
Lauren Aillet have also featured for Coach
Chris McCarter's squad. King notched her best effort in the spring while finishing in the top 20 at the Lady Eagle Invitational.
New Orleans is one of ten teams who will participate in the tournament. Incarnate Word will compete unattached as part of their transition period. Lamar enters the favorite and the highest ranked team according to GolfStat. Lamar is looking for its fifth Southland title in the 13
th year of the event.
Tee time for the opening round is set for 8 a.m.
