MAGNOLIA, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's golf team shot a 323 after enduring a rough start in the first round of the Southland Conference Championships at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club on Tuesday.
New Orleans trails the pack of ten teams after Day One of the tournament. The leading golfer on the day was
Brenda Gonzalez who shot a 78 and landed just inside the top 20. Gonzalez had an even keel start to the tournament, and was 1-over entering the final three holes. However, a double bogey on 17 and a triple bogey on 18 closed Gonzalez's round on a sour note.
Pair Noibanchong racked up four birdies on the day, but could not shake a start where she shot 5-over par on the front nine. Noibanchong wound up with an 81 on the day, which tied her for 35th individually.
Florence King also shot an 81 in the opening round. The Privateers were rounded out by
Emily Pellerin who shot an 83, and
Bridget Landry who fired an 86 on the day.
Lamar and Sam Houston State are tied for first place after both teams notched a team score of 304 in the opening round. Lamar has the most Southland Championships in women's golf with four.
The tournament continues Wednesday with the second round, which will start at 8 a.m.
