SUGAR LAND, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's golf team saved their best for last in the final round of the HBU Husky Invitational at the Par-72 Riverbend Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
After rounds of 335 and 340 during the first day of competition, the Privateers fired a team total of 326 in the third round.
Brenda Gonzalez led the way individually. After shooting rounds of 83 and 86, Gonzalez improved to a 3-over 75 in the final round. Gonzalez finished the tournament tied for 40th individually, and moved up 13 spots on the day.
Pair Noibanchong wound up tied for 42nd individually. After an opening round of 78, Noibanchong recorded rounds of 83 and 84 to wrap up the tournament.
Florence King finished 64th with a three-round score of 258. After starting with a 93 in the first round, King improved to an 83 in round two, and knocked another stroke off her total with an 82 on Tuesday.
Rounding out the field for the Privateers was
Emily Pellerin who finished 66th with a 260 and
Bridget Landry who landed in 69th with a 266.
Four Southland schools occupied the top five spots in the tournament with Lamar taking first place. Central Arkansas tied for second, and host Houston Baptist wound up fourth. Stephen F. Austin rounded out the top five.
The Privateers will take part in the Southland Conference Championships starting on Apr. 15 in Magnolia, Texas.
