TAMPA, Fla. – The University of New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams will spend their spring break with stops in Florida and Georgia beginning on Saturday when both teams challenge Saint Leo's.
The UNO squads will combine to face a total of eight ranked NCAA Division II opponents on the trip.
Opposition facing both Privateer teams includes Eckerd, Rollins, Valdosta State and Grand Canyon during the trip. The UNO men (7-4) will also face Barry and UC-San Diego while the Privateer women (8-4) add matches against Tampa, West Georgia and Northeastern (Okla.) State.
The UNO men have fallen 5-2 to William Carey and 6-1 to Auburn-Montgomery in their last two matches. The Privateers' last win came 9-0 over fellow Division I foe Jackson State on Mar. 11.
Vinay Kamineni has put together a two-match win streak for UNO despite the overall team losses.
Kamineni is 6-3 on the season and is just one win shy of matching his seven singles' wins from a year ago. Doubles' play has been a strong suit for the redshirt junior as well, partnering with
David Malmgren to win 3 of 4 matches including an 8-3 win at the No. 2 court against AUM.
Like their male counterparts, the Privateer women's squad begins the trip following their first back-to-back defeats of the season. UNO fell to No. 1 ranked NAIA squad AUM 5-2 on Mar. 25 before a 5-2 setback against No. 1 ranked NCAA Division II foe BYU-Hawaii a day later.
Juliet Labarthe was the only UNO singles' player to claim a victory in both defeats. Labarthe has a three-match winning streak and a 9-1 record when playing at the No. 3 position.
Kristina Martic and
Sofija Karalic joined Labarthe in picking up wins in the previous two matches. Martic and Karalic are 5-3 on the slate, but stand as the only active Privateer doubles' team with a winning streak intact.
Any changes to the slate, as well as results will be posted to UNOPrivateers.com following the conclusion of play each day. A full listing of the schedule is available below.
