Lady Privateers Drop Home Contest to HBU

UNO Resumes Schedule on Jan. 23 at Grambling

NEW ORLEANS – Houston Baptist took advantage of a poor shooting performance by New Orleans to pick up a 60-45 victory at Lakefront Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Shanice Steenholdt scored a game-high 23 points to lead HBU (3-13).

The Huskies' leading scorer on the season, Steenholdt scored 19 of her points in the second half after shooting just 1 of 4 for two points in the opening 20 minutes. Erin McGarrachan notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

An 11-0 run by HBU midway through the second half enabled the team to pull away from UNO (1-15), which shot a season-low 20.9 percent from the field in the contest.

The Huskies' advantage was 37-33 with 12:21 remaining in the game following a pair of free throws from Lady Privateer freshman Yasmin Taylor. The end result of the spurt was a 15-point advantage at 48-33 with HBU's 17-point lead at the 7:16 mark representing a game-high.

UNO cut the deficit to 12 points down the stretch, but was unable to overcome the advantage.

Keri Thomas was the top scorer for the Lady Privateers with 15 points, followed by Mirjam Sipos, who added 13 points. Mathilde Fogelstrom totaled 11 rebounds to lead UNO.

The Lady Privateer deficit at the half was 22-20 after trailing 20-10 with 6:15 remaining before the intermission. UNO scored the final eight points of the opening half, a run which included a pair of free throws from Thomas, Sipos and Samantha Gray.

The next contest for the Lady Privateers is scheduled for Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. against Grambling.
