NEW ORLAEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will begin a three-game road trip with in-state foe Louisiana Tech Friday night. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.
The Privateers (0-4, 0-0 Southland) will look to build off the momentum they had in the second half of a 54-51 loss to Jacksonville State last Saturday. The Lady Techsters (0-4, 0-0 Conference USA) are also looking for their first victory coming off a 91-68 loss to Arkansas State.
Mathilde Fogelstrom has a team-leading 34 rebounds heading into the contest, while
Danielle Davis is the team's leading scorer with 8.8 points per game average. Davis is also the team's top 3-point shooter, making six 3-point baskets out of 15 for the season. Other bright spots include
Yasmin Taylor playing her first minutes of the 2013-14 season against the Gamecocks, and finishing with eight points and 14 rebounds.
For the Lady Techsters, junior forward Whitney Frazier is the team scoring leader with 16.0 points per game. She is also LA Tech's leading rebounder with 6.5 rebounds per game. She is also a solid .815 from the free-throw line shooting 22-27. Freshman guard JaQuan Jackson is also a solid scoring threat for LA Tech as she is averaging 14.8 points per game. Jackson is the team's most active three-point shooter with 7-22 for the year. Junior guard Chrisstasia Walter leads LA Tech with 3.3 steals per game this season.
The two teams match up closely statistically. LA Tech has outshot UNO for the season with a .363 field goal percentage to UNO's .325. UNO does have a slight edge from 3-point range, shooting .256 to LA Tech's .254. La Tech and UNO are very close in rebounding percentage with LA Tech at 36.5 per game and UNO at 34.5 per game. LA Tech also holds a slight edge in assists per game with 12.5 per game to UNO's 10.5 per game. UNO also has an edge over LA Tech in blocks per game with 2.5 per game to LA Tech's 1.5 per game.
UNO continues the road trip with Jackson State on December 5 followed by a trip to Murray State two days later. The Privateers return home Saturday, December 14 to host in-state rival Louisiana Lafayette at the Lakefront Arena.
