NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (2-1) fell 4-2 to the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (4-4) on Sunday at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers won the doubles match on Court 1 with the tandem of
Romain Lefevre and
Blake Gregor winning their match 6-2. However, the Golden Eagles won the other two matches to take the doubles point. Chao-Yu Huang and Vasco Valverde won a tie-breaker 7-4 and Southern Miss' tandem on the third court swept the match 6-0 to help vault Southern Miss to the doubles point.
New Orleans took singles victories from the first two positions with
Rui Silva and
Gonzalo Garcia beating their opponents in straight sets. Southern Miss took three of the remaining four matches with the match on Court 5 going unfinished.
New Orleans next takes on Troy at home on Sunday, Feb. 23. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
