BATON ROUGE, La. –
Timo Kranz made his return to the lineup, but the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team was handed a defeat against the LSU Tigers (6-4) on Friday night in Baton Rouge.
Kranz had injured his back in the opening dual of the season against Jackson State, but returned to the lineup and paired with
Daniel Populus for doubles. The tandem lost 6-3 to the 20th ranked doubles team in the country of Chris Simpson and Boris Arias. New Orleans would lose the doubles point after
Blake Gregor and
Romain Lefevre lost 6-5 in their match.
The focus then went to singles, and Kranz was in the 2 position upon his return. After losing the first set to Arias 6-2, Kranz stretched the second set further but fell 6-5 (7-2). The Tigers took all of the singles points for a 7-0 victory.
Only one set was taken by a Privateers player.
Christoffer Appelgren at the 6 position took the first set from Harrison Kennedy at 6-4. However, Appelgren lost the point when he lost the second set at 6-3, then the deciding third set at 10-4. The Tigers came in ranked 73rd in the nation, and it was their second match on the day after opening SEC play with a loss to Kentucky.
New Orleans has a week until their next match, which will be their first Southland battle. The Privateers take on Oral Roberts on Mar. 7 in Tulsa. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
