Privateers Swept by Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-6, 1-2 Southland) had a tough outing on the court in a 7-0 loss to the Nicholls State Colonels (9-7, 3-0) on Wednesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

The Privateers' tandem at the 1 position in doubles came out strong for the second consecutive match. Blake Gregor teamed up with Gonzalo Garcia on the day to take an 8-3 victory in their match. New Orleans lost at the 2 position in doubles, but had a chance on a tiebreak to take the opening point.

Christoffer Appelgren and Rui Silva took it to a tiebreak, but lost 8-6. The Colonels locked up the doubles tally and would not look back in singles play. The Colonels took five of six matches in straight sets en route to the clean sweep.

Appelgren was the only Privateers player to extend a match to three sets. While playing at the 5 position, Appelgren took the first set 6-3. After dropping the second set at 6-3, Appelgren went to a tiebreaking third set, but fell short while losing the deciding set 10-7.

New Orleans will start a five-match home stand against Alabama State on Sunday. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
