NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (6-5, 3-2 Southland) overwhelmed the Incarnate Word Cardinals (3-13, 0-6) in a 6-1 victory on Saturday at the University Tennis Center.
The day started with the Privateers taking the doubles point off the first two matches that finished.
Soledad Calderon Arroyo and
Marta Sans picked up a victory by the score of 8-5 on the second court. The tandem of
Anna Segarra Rius and
Hafsa Laraibi followed with an 8-5 win of their own to seal the first point of the day. The match in the doubles 1 position went unfinished.
In singles play, the Privateers kept their foot on the throttle by winning five of six matches. Of the five matches New Orleans won in singles, no player lost more than five games. Rius continued her unblemished with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the 2 position.
Amina Mrad played her third singles match of the season and moved to 2-1 by defeating Brianah Creek 6-0, 6-1 at the 6 position. It was Mrad's first singles match since Mar. 9 against SIU-Edwardsville and her first match that completed in straight sets.
Sans, Laraibi, and Yasmine Rashad also breezed by their respective opponents. For Rashad, it is her fifth win in her last six singles matches. Rashad played at the 4 position, her highest spot in the rotation this season.
The Privateers are back in action on April 5 when they travel to Natchitoches to take on Northwestern State to begin a three-match road swing. The match will get underway at 11 a.m.
