Privateers Take on Sam Houston State on Friday

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (2-3) looks to snap a three-match losing skid against the Sam Houston State Bearkats (3-3) at the McAdams Tennis Center on Friday at 2 p.m.

New Orleans dropped its most recent outing 6-1 against Southern Miss last Saturday. In the loss, the Privateers conceded the doubles point on a tiebreak. The Privateers also went 0-2 in singles matches that stretched to the full three sets.

Anna Segarra Rius continues her strong individual start to the dual season. Rius picked up the only point for the Privateers against Southern Miss by winning her match at the 4 position. Rius also teamed with Hafsa Laraibi to win their doubles match on Saturday. Rius has not dropped a set in singles play on the season.

The Privateers have lost three straight to Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, and Southern Miss entering this weekend after taking the first two duals of the season against Jackson State and Alcorn State. This will be New Orleans' first dual against a Southland opponent.

Sam Houston State also enters on a three-match losing streak after dropping duals to UTEP and Rice. The Bearkats' victories on the season have come against North Central Texas, Oral Roberts, and Tarleton State.

For the Privateers, this starts a stretch of four matches in six days. New Orleans will also have a road match at Lamar on Saturday, before returning home for duals against SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday and Abilene Christian next Wednesday.
