HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team defeated Sam Houston State 5-2 to end a three-game slide and to start Southland Conference play with a win.
The Privateers (3-3, 1-0 Southland) won the doubles point with relative ease, sweeping all three matches by the score of 8-2. The Bearkats (3-4, 1-1 Southland) found success in singles play at No. 1 and No. 5 singles for the team's only two points.
Picking up wins in singles play was
Soledad Calderon Arroyo scoring a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Imke Jagau, while
Anna Segarra Rius followed suit at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Kayla Stevenson.
Marta Sans notched a 7-5, 6-2 win over Natalie Petaia at No. 4, while Yasmine Rashad gutted out a 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 against Isabelle Costa.
New Orleans continues its conference tour, traveling to Lamar tomorrow morning for an 11 a.m. first serve.
