MONROE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (6-7, 3-4 Southland) looks to get back on track in a make-up match against the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (10-9, 3-6 Southland) on Friday. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
The Privateers were swept by Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State in back-to-back conference matches last weekend. With the two losses, New Orleans has dropped to seventh among teams eligible for postseason play. Friday's match is a make-up of a contest that was originally scheduled in New Orleans, but was postponed due to rain.
New Orleans has gone through injuries at the top of the rotation.
Anna Segarra Rius had to retire from her match in the dual against Northwestern State due to injury. The Privateers' only points against Northwestern State came from
Hafsa Laraibi and
Soledad Calderon Arroyo who each won their singles matches.
Calderon has been leaned on at the top of the Privateers rotation, and has been very successful on the court in singles. Calderon has won seven of her last eight singles bouts, and has won both of her three-set matches in that span.
Central Arkansas comes in hot, having won each of their last three conference matches. Central Arkansas owns victories over Sam Houston State, Lamar, and most recently a 5-2 win over Oral Roberts on Apr. 6.
The Privateers will also trek to Hammond to take on Southeastern on Sunday to wrap the conference weekend.
