Privateers Rally to Defeat Cardinals

NEW ORLEANS, La - New Orleans Privateers men's tennis (6-7, 2-3 Southland) returned to action following a 12-day layoff, and picked up their second conference win of the season in dramatic fashion Friday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

Despite dropping two out of three doubles matches, the Privateers would rally winning four of six in singles competition to take a 4-3 victory over the Lamar Cardinals (12-11, 1-3 Southland). The sole doubles victory for New Orleans came on court No. 3 with Blake Gregor and Luis Alburquerque cruising to an 8-1 victory over Lamar's Trey Crysel and Carl-Philip Lindqvist.

The turning point in the match came on court No. 3 when Blake Gregor would fend off Lindqvist in three-sets, using a dominating 6-0 third set to secure the victory. The win snapped a two match losing streak for Gregor, and moved him to 5-5 in singles this year, with a 3-2 mark in league matches.

Gregor's doubles partner Alburquerque would also pick up his first singles win of the season, with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Trey Crysel on court No. 6. The singles win was the first collegiate victory for Alburquerque, breaking a six match losing streak.

Men's tennis returns to court on Sunday April 13 when they host in-state rival Louisiana Lafayette. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the University Tennis Center.

NOTES - The doubles victory for Gregor and Alburquerque came in their first time teaming together this season ... both Southland victories for the Privateers this season have been by scores of 4-3.
