Privateers Dealt Loss in Close Match

HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans women's tennis team put forth a valiant effort against in-state and Southland Conference foe Southeastern, but fell 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

The Privateers (6-9, 3-6 Southland) found success in singles play, making up for the doubles point loss with Soledad Calderon Arroyo getting a key three-set victory at No. 2.  Calderon Arroyo defeated Nastya Tokareva 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 to improve to 11-4 in singles action on the season.

Marta Sans and Yasmine Rashad followed suit with singles wins.  Sans defeated Yalya Rusakova at No. 3, 6-3, 7-5 while Rashad was victorious at No. 5 over Avika Sagwal 7-5, 6-2.

Despite the strong play in singles, it was the doubles point that came back to haunt the Privateers once again.  Calderon Arroyo and Sans won their doubles match, but that was the only victory in the pairings.

New Orleans will pick up action again at the Tennis Center against Nicholls State on Friday, April 18.  First serve is at 2 p.m.
