Privateers Take on Nicholls in Critical Home Match

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (6-9, 3-4 Southland) looks to shake off a tough loss when they take on the Nicholls Colonels (13-7, 6-4) on Friday at the University Tennis Center.

The Privateers suffered a 4-3 loss at the hands of Southeastern on Sunday to drop them into a tie for eighth in the conference standings with Lamar. New Orleans has now lost four matches in a row heading into their final home weekend. New Orleans will also have their home finale against McNeese State on Saturday.

Injuries have forced a shuffle in the rotation with Anna Segarra Rius battling a foot ailment. Soledad Calderon Arroyo has stepped up in the front end of the rotation for the Privateers, adding two more singles wins to her 2014 total. Calderon Arroyo has also teamed with Marta Sans in No. 1 doubles to win matches against Central Arkansas and Southeastern last weekend.

Nicholls comes in with three losses in their last five matches after coming off a five-match winning streak that spanned from Mar. 12-29. The Colonels are led in part by Marie Aubert who has come in 9-2 in her last 11 singles matches. Aubert opened the 2014 season with singles wins against opponents in LSU and Tulane who were ranked 66th and 56th respectively at the time of those matches.

After their final home stand, the Privateers will close the regular season with a road match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Apr. 21.
