Nicholls State Overpowers Privateers

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (6-10, 3-7 Southland) fell 6-1 to the Nicholls State Colonels (14-7, 7-4 Southland) on Friday afternoon at the Tennis Center.

New Orleans only mustered one singles win with Yasmine Rashad doing the deed at No. 6 singles, defeating Emma Kranendonk in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.  The only other set in favor of the Privateers was in doubles play with Soledad Calderon Arroyo and Marta Sans continuing their tirade as the duo defeated Klara Skopac and Stephanie Barnett at No. 1, 8-6.  Calderon and Sans are now 9-3 in doubles as a team on the season.

Calderon is the only Privateer to go to three sets in her match before falling to Barnett at No. 1, 0-6, 7-6, 6-4.  Anna Segarra Rius was back in the lineup after being absent due to injury, and although her presence in the lineup was a good sight, she fell at No. 3 to Kateryna Nakonechna, 6-4, 7-5.

New Orleans picks up action tomorrow at home versus McNeese State to close out the 2014 home slate.
