Privateers Set For Two Conference Road Matches

NACODOCHES, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (6-5, 3-2 Southland) takes back to the court this weekend against the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (8-7, 4-2) on Friday at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

It will be the first of a two-match conference weekend for the Privateers who will also take on Northwestern State on Saturday. New Orleans has won their last two conference matches by scores of 7-0 over Oral Roberts and 6-1 over Incarnate Word.

Yasmine Rashad has provided a spark at the back end of the rotation for the Privateers. Rashad is 6-3 overall in singles play, and has won five of her last six entering the weekend. Against Incarnate Word, Rashad played at her highest position at No. 4 singles, and took home a straight set victory. Rashad is also 4-1 in three-set matches.

The Privateers have won the doubles point in back-to-back matches for the first time since the opening two matches of the dual meet in 2014 against Jackson State and Alcorn State. New Orleans has secured victories at No. 2 doubles in five of the last six matches.

Stephen F. Austin has been no stranger to matches coming down to the wire this season. Five of their matches have been decided by a 4-3 margin including their latest, a loss against Northwestern State on Mar. 29. The Ladyjacks have won three of five matches that have gone to the narrowest of margins on the season.

Denise Maxl recently had a six-match winning streak in singles snapped against Northwestern State after starting the year 0-5 in singles play. Maxl has played at the 1 position in singles for all but three matches for the Ladyjacks including the last two matches.

First serve is set for 3 p.m.
