Adam Cornelson Leads Field at Wildfire Invitational

LEADERBOARD

ONTARIO, Canada – Former Privateer golfer, Adam Cornelson has put himself into position to win his first PGA Tour Canada event since turning pro in 2011. Heading into the weekend, Cornelson is 14-under par at the Wildfire Invitational in Peterborough, Ontario at the Wildfire Golf Club.

Through 36 holes of play, Cornelson has 12 birdies, one eagle, and no bogeys. He rocketed out of the gate to shoot a nine-under 63 and lead the field heading into Friday. His eagle came on the Par-5 16th hole.

"It's nice to see Adam finally have a breakthrough in his game. He's a hard worker with tremendous potential. Adam has won at the professional level, which should serve him well this weekend," said Privateers Golf Coach Chris McCarter.

In the second round, Cornelson felt some pressure from Brock Mackenzie who has a win and three top-10 finishes in eight events on the tour. Cornelson broke a tie for the lead on his final hole of the day with a birdie on a par-3 to move one shot ahead of Mackenzie heading into the weekend.

This is Cornelson's third full season as a pro, and he is currently in line for his first top-10 of the year. The 26-year old British Columbia native's previous best finish on the season was a T-18th at the Syncrude Boreal Open. Cornelson played from 2005-09 at New Orleans and won two titles in his collegiate career.
