NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team (5-11, 0-4 Southland) takes a mini break from conference play to start the week with a road trip to take on the Alcorn State Lady Braves (4-8, 0-0 SWAC) on Tuesday night at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Privateers are looking to snap a three-match losing skid that encompassed the last week after suffering defeats to conference opponents Southeastern, Houston Baptist, and most recently Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at home.
New Orleans owns a win against Alcorn State from earlier this season. The Privateers clinched the UNO Invitational by defeating the Lady Braves 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) on Sept. 6. New Orleans is undefeated in nine career meetings against Alcorn State.
Rondolyn Bryant has nearly doubled her block total in the last four matches. After recording 17 blocks in the first 10 matches appeared in this season, Bryant has registered 15 blocks in the last four outings including a season-high six total (three solo and three assist) against Southeastern. Bryant currently leads the team in blocks and is third in kills.
Cara Sander turned in her seventh match of at least 10 kills by recording 14 in 35 attacks against Southeastern last Tuesday. Sander is currently tied for ninth in the Southland with 3.07 kills per set and has 141 total kills on the season.
The Lady Braves enter Tuesday on a high note after winning both matches in the Stillman College Tri-Match on Friday. Alcorn State defeated the hosts Stillman College in four sets and followed up with a three-set win over Fort Valley State. Heather Jackson achieved a career-high against Stillman by racking up 14 kills.
After Tuesday, the Privateers return back home and back to conference play against Central Arkansas on Thursday, Oct. 2.
