Women's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Slate at Arkansas

OPENING TIP

The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (3-5) will close out their non-conference slate with a second SEC opponent in the Arkansas Razorbacks (4-8). Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bud Walton Arena.
 
The Privateers have had 13 days to prepare since their last outing, an 81-79 home loss to UNCG. New Orleans had as much as a 12-point lead in the second half, but was out-scored 31-24 in the fourth quarter. Randi Brown led the team with 21 points while Jewel Angelo scored 13 points off the bench in her season debut.
 
New Orleans ranks in the top three in the Southland in rebounding (1st), scoring (2nd), assists (2nd), and field goal percentage (T-3rd). Against UNCG, the Privateers dished out 20 assists on 31 made field goals and went for 20-plus assists for the third time this season. Their single game high for the year is 27 assists against LSU-Alexandria.
 
Through eight games, the Privateers are forcing just shy of 21 turnovers per game. New Orleans has forced four opponents to commit more than 20 turnovers this season. Against UNCG, the Privateers also tied a season-high with seven blocked shots.
 
FAST BREAK
-Jewel Angelo made her debut against UNCG and scored 13 points. It was Angelo's 12th double-digit scoring output of her career.
-New Orleans shot over 40 percent from the field for the third time in the last four outings, connecting on 44.9 percent of their attempts against UNCG.
-Bria Platenburg is second on the team in scoring and has four straight games of double digit points.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Arkansas is coming off an 86-46 home victory against Mississippi Valley State. All four of the Razorbacks' wins have come at home. Four players scored in double figures in the victory as the Razorbacks led the game from start to finish. Arkansas also posted a 54-26 advantage in points in the paint and shot 55.9 percent from the field in the second half.
 
Jessica Jackson is in the midst of her junior season after being selected to the AP All-SEC Second Team as a sophomore. This season, Jackson is leading her team in points, rebounds, blocks, minutes, and three-pointers made. Jackson's season-high was 29 points against Tulsa. Her career-best scoring output came as a freshman when she scored 31 against Ole Miss.
 
Jimmy Dykes is in his second season with his alma mater. A former ESPN analyst, Dykes guided the Razorbacks to 18 wins in his first season. This season, Arkansas has played a tough non-conference schedule, which has included losses to two top ten teams (Oregon State, Texas).
