NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (3-1) returns to action on Saturday against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (3-0) on Saturday at Heard Stadium. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
The Privateers dealt the shorthanded Loyola Wolfpack a 6-0 defeat on Tuesday despite also being a player short.
Soledad Calderon Arroyo missed the match due to an illness. Calderon has been at the top position in singles throughout the early stages of the season.
Anja Luethi got her first start at #1 singles in Calderon's absence and breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The other four singles matches on Tuesday went in New Orleans' favor by 6-0, 6-0 margins.
Hafsa Laraibi also remains unblemished in singles play, moving to 3-0 in the early portion of the season.
The Privateers are searching for only their second 4-1 start to the dual season since 2003-04. All time, New Orleans is 6-1 against the Warhawks, but suffered their first loss just last year by a 4-3 count on Feb. 17, 2014.
Louisiana-Monroe has picked up 4-0 wins over Alcorn State, Southern, and Northwestern State to start their spring campaign. The Warhawks have been led in singles by Jana Duhanova who has won all three of her matches. Duhanova has only dropped seven games in the process of three straight set wins. In doubles, she is 2-1 along with Letha Gaiger.
