RESULTSKENNER, La. – The first-year New Orleans sand volleyball team again made program gains on Wednesday afternoon, taking the first ever set win during a pair of losses to North Florida and Louisiana-Monroe.
The Privateers took both losses in competitive sets at Coconut Beach, falling to both the Ospreys and the Warhawks, 5-0.
In the opening match of the day it was UNF that took the 5-0 team victory in five close contests. The No. 4 duo of
Kelsea Hundtoft and
Camila Lau battled back after a 21-9 first set loss to tie things up at 10 in the second set before ultimately falling, 21-16.
At the No. 1 spot
Cara Sander and Celeste Ramirez came close in both sets, falling in the first 21-15 and in the second, 21-11.
Lauren Levy and
Brooklyn Frank also reached double-figure point totals in both sets, 21-11, 21-10 as did Courtney Robles and
Ashley Everett, 21-10, 21-12.
In the second match the competition was close all the way around, ULM taking the win 5-0 despite close sets at nearly every position.
At the No. 4 spot, Hundtoft and Lau made history as the tandem won the first ever set in program history, taking the second 21-17.
Sophie Gracey and
Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe then took the Warhawks to the brink at No. 3, losing in two sets, 21-18, 21-16, after being tied in the first at 18.
The Privateers return to the court this Friday through Sunday, March 20-22, as New Orleans heads to Baton Rouge, La. to take part in the Tiger Sand Tournament at LSU.
