SHC | UAB | LSU | ULM BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – New Orleans sand volleyball again made gains this weekend at the UAB Blazer Beach Duals, hanging tough in four tough matches in Birmingham, Ala.
The two-day event saw the Privateers take on Spring Hill College, Alabama-Birmingham, LSU and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday and Sunday.
The tandem of
Lauren Levy and
Brooklyn Frank took their second match win of the season at the No. 2 spot in the opener against Spring Hill, taking the opening set 22-20 before ultimately winning things in the third, 15-11.
Kelsea Hundtoft and Taylor Berry took the No. 5 match to the brink, falling in the third 15-12, as the Privateers dropped the opening round, 4-1.
New Orleans then brought two matches against the host team UAB to three sets, Frank and Levy again at the No. 2 spot, 19-21, 21-11, 15-4, as well as Hundtoft and Berry at No. 4, 21-13, 19-21, 15-11.
The Privateers ultimately slipped up to the Blazers, 5-0, to end the first day of competition.
Sunday opened up with a 5-0 loss to LSU,
Cara Sander and Celeste Ramirez putting up the best showing against the Tigers from the No. 1 spot with 21-15, 21-10 set losses.
New Orleans wrapped up the weekend against in-state foe Louisiana-Monroe, taking a 5-0 loss even with another three-setter at the No. 1 position from Sander and Ramirez, 15-21, 21-10, 15-4.
The Privateers are set to return home for their final match at Coconut Beach following the weekend in Birmingham, Ala., taking on Tulane at 2 p.m. CT on April 7.
