New Orleans- In a rare weekday- morning start, the University of New Orleans women's basketball team will face Trinity Baptist College out of Jacksonville, Florida, Monday, Dec. 12, at Lakefront Arena. Tipoff is set for 11 a. m. as part of Privateer Pride Campus Appreciation Day. UNO faculty and staff will be admitted free and lunch will be served at halftime compliments of the athletic department and Aramark.
New Orleans (3-4) returns to the court after dropping a 100-63 decision on the road to Iowa State on Dec. 4. UNO is 2-1 at home with wins over Blue Mountain College and Texas Southern and 1-3 on the road, the lone victory away was a thrilling 81-79 win at Jacksonville State.
In the loss to Iowa State, New Orleans was led by junior guard
Kayla Mundy (Human Performance) with a career high 17 points shooting 7-of-10 from the floor. Mundy scored 10 of her 17 points in the first half when the Privateers led by 2 after the first quarter and trailed by only 7 at halftime.
Guard
Randi Brown (Human Performance) came into the Iowa State contest leading the Southland Conference (SLC) in scoring at 20.2 per game. Despite being held below her average by the Cyclones with 14, she is still the conference's scoring leader at 18.3 points an outing. Brown leads the SLC in points cored (135) field goals made (44), and she is second in 3-pointers made with 18 one behind the leader.
Senior
Jewel Angelo (Interdisciplinary Studies) has netted her career high in scoring three consecutive games with 12 points against Jacksonville State, Texas Southern and Iowa State. The Manvel, Texas native ranks 11
th in the SLC in free throw percentage at .824 hitting 14-of-17 on the season.
Sophomore center
Shania Woods (Accounting) is the club's second leading scorer at 8 points a game and the leader in rebounding with 7 a contest good enough for 10
th in the Southland Conference. Woods is 11
th in field goal percentage at .471.
As a team, New Orleans is 4
th in the conference in field goal percentage at .403, third in 3-point percentage (.342), 4
th in the league in free throws hitting 84-of-114 for a .737 clip. UNO is the fourth best defensive rebounding team in the Southland Conference at 36 rebounds a game.
This will mark the second meeting between the Privateers and the Eagles who compete at the Division II level in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association. New Orleans took a 109-46 win on Dec. 5 of last year at Lakefront Arena. In that game the Privateers outrebounded Trinity Baptist (2-7) by 52 rebounds, 67-to-15---a program record for rebounding margin. The game, which saw five Privateers in double digits, also marked the first time UNO reached triple digits in a game since 1999.
After facing Trinity Baptist New Orleans will face the University of Texas Longhorns, Tuesday, Dec. 20, in Austin before returning to Lakefront Arena, Thursday, Dec. 29, to face Crowley's Ridge College of Paragould, Arkansas.
