Women's Tennis Takes 3-0 Mark Into Saturday vs. Alcorn State

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team takes their 3-0 record into a Saturday tilt with the Alcorn State Lady Braves (0-5) on Saturday at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

The Privateers have swept their first three opponents of the season, acquiring wins over Loyola, Southern, and most recently Jackson State. Last Saturday, New Orleans got mostly routine matches throughout the lineup. All singles were finished in straight sets and Anja Luethi recorded her second 6-0, 6-0 sweep of the spring.

"I think that we had a good practice this week," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "We competed well among each other and I think they'll be ready to play. We've had a nice little break and as I told them, we have to be ready for every match."

New Orleans has also hinged on fast starts in the doubles point during each match. Luethi and Trang Dao are 2-0 at #1 doubles while the freshman tandem of Brittany Johnson and Paula Garriga helped secure the first point in the Privateers' most recent outing.

Alcorn State won the SWAC postseason tournament in 2015 and made it to the NCAA tournament. This season, the Lady Braves have endured losses to Mississippi State and Southeastern twice. Alcorn has also dropped a decision against Southern Miss. The Lady Braves have not played a home match yet this season.
