BOX SCORE
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – After the back half of the rotation was responsible for Saturday's win, the front half of the University of New Orleans women's tennis team (6-1, 2-0 Southland) was largely responsible for a 5-2 victory over the Sam Houston State Bearkats (5-5, 0-2) on Sunday at the McAdams Center.
In doubles, the Privateers and Bearkats split the matches at #2 and #3 doubles with New Orleans taking the former of the two as
Soledad Calderon Arroyo and
Anna Segarra Rius posted a 6-1 victory. That left the #1 doubles match, which was hotly contested between UNO's top tandem of
Anja Luethi and
Trang Dao and Sam Houston State's group of Carrie Casey and Mila Milanovic. The Privateers prevailed in that match by a 7-5 score to take the first point.
The Privateers then picked up singles wins from one through four in the rotation. Calderon came back from a set down to defeat Fabienne Gettwart after winning 10-6 in the third set. Segarra, Luethi, and Dao all posted straight set victories.
Luethi won her match while only dropping one game against Ema Barkovic. Segarra posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at #2 singles and Dao also won her match by a 6-4, 6-1 score. The Bearkats picked up wins at #5 and #6 singles.
UNO returns home on Friday, March 4 to take on Incarnate Word at 1 p.m.
