NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team (8-1, 4-0) will face a currently unbeaten Southland foe when they take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (10-0, 1-0) on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Center. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
The Privateers rallied back in dramatic fashion to keep their conference record unblemished. In a 4-3 win over Central Arkansas last Sunday,
Trang Dao rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third and final set to clinch the match for UNO.
The women's team is off to its best spring start in over a decade. The last time a UNO team won eight of their first nine duals was in 2003. In that season, the Privateers got out to a 13-1 start.
Anna Segarra Rius is 4-0 at #1 singles. Segarra was switched into the top spot in the rotation ahead of last weekend's conference trek and responded with a straight set victory against Incarnate Word and a win by default against Central Arkansas.
The Islanders opened up their conference slate with a 5-2 win over Northwestern State last Monday. After losing the doubles point to begin the day, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won singles matches at the top three spots and also picked up a win from Kerry Galhos at #6 singles.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will play a match on Saturday against Southeastern before taking on the Privateers on Sunday. The Islanders' remaining 10 matches of the spring season will all be against conference opponents.
