Women's Tennis Loses First Conference Match, Falls to Islanders

BOX SCORE

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas
– The University of New Orleans women's tennis team was shorthanded on Sunday and dropped their first conference match as a result by a 6-1 score to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The Privateers could only field two doubles teams as three of the eight players on the roster were unavailable. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi picked up a win at #2 doubles by a 6-4 margin to clinch the opening point of the match.

In singles, Anna Segarra Rius turned in another victory at the top spot in the rotation. Segarra outlasted Hortense Boscher 7-5 in a long first set before taking the second by a 6-3 score. It was the only point the Privateers picked up on the day.

Trang Dao was up a set after coasting past Judit Vives 6-1. Vives rebounded though and took the next two sets to snatch the point up at #3 singles. The Islanders also turned in straight set victories throughout the rest of the rotation to remain undefeated.

UNO will next face Abilene Christian on March 18.
