Women's Tennis Battles Grambling, Missouri to Start Week

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team (8-4, 4-3 Southland) returns home during a busy stretch of matches. The Privateers will take on the Grambling Tigers on Monday and the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday at the University Tennis Center.

UNO went 0-2 over the weekend with losses to Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin in conference play. With the lineup changed around due to injuries, the Privateers suffered a 5-2 defeat to the Lady Demons on Friday. Against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, UNO won the doubles point but that was the only point they picked up in the match.

Paula Garriga Ullate and Brittany Johnson have answered the call in doubles action. The two freshmen are 5-0 in doubles play and picked up a win over Stephen F. Austin's No. 3 tandem to help secure the doubles point on Saturday. Johnson also won a singles match against Northwestern State over the weekend at No. 5.

The last time UNO played Grambling (0-12, 0-6 SWAC) was back in 2008, which was a 7-0 victory for the Privateers. The Tigers have lost their last two conference matches by forfeit to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Southern. Grambling has been held without a point in nine matches this season.

Missouri (13-7, 1-6 SEC) has endured a tough stretch since entering SEC play. The Tigers lost in Baton Rouge by a 7-0 score to LSU on Sunday. The only conference win Missouri has picked up was a 4-3 decision over Alabama. Bea Machado Santos has been the Tigers' regular No. 1 player in singles and has posted an 11-6 record at the top spot. Santos also has a win at No. 2 singles.

The match against Grambling will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday. The Missouri match will take place on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
