NEW ORLEANS – Freshman
Erin Chopin won the women's high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters as the University of New Orleans track and field teams opened the 2016 outdoor season at the Tulane Twilight Invitational on Friday afternoon at Tad Gormley Stadium.
Chopin was one of nine Privateers to post a top five finish on the day, as was the top half of a 1-2 finish in the event as junior
Fadeke Adeola finished second with a height just shy of the winning mark. Junior
Chelise Brown also tallied a runner-up performance with a 12.24 in the women's 100 meter dash.
Other UNO women to post top five finishers were junior
Farydah Inoussa and senior
Callie Willcox with a fourth-place showings in the 100 meters (12.48) and 1500 meters (5:09.47). On the men's side, sophomore
Nick Schiro was third in the javelin with a throw of 50.02 meters and fifth in the hammer with a toss of 39.79 meters. Junior
Michael Batson was fifth in the 400 meters at 49.96 as was freshman
Michael Nicholls in the 100 meters with an 11.09.
Junior
Clayton O'Callaghan led the UNO men in the men's 1500 meters with a time of 4:14.05 to finish sixth, as did
Farydah Inoussa in the women's shot put (11.07 meters) and the quartet of junior
Edmund Pine, freshman
Mark Golay, O'Callahan and junior
Jared Robertson in the men's 4x400 meter relay.
Pine (2:00.52 in the men's 800),
Kohi Brignac (36.82 meters in the women's hammer) and Lakayla LaFrance (15.68 in the women's 100 hurdles) each led UNO with eighth-place performances.
Ja'Nai Cameron paced the Privateers with a 26.07 to finish 10th in the women's 200 meter, and junior Daren Darrensburg was 11th in the men's 200 meter dash.
The UNO teams will have little time to rest as the Privateers return to action on Saturday, March 5, when they travel to Mobile, Alabama to take part in the Jaguar Open. Click
