NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team will have a home and road match in the same weekend. First UNO (9-4, 4-3 Southland) will host Arkansas State on Saturday at 12 p.m. On Sunday, the Privateers will travel to face conference foe, Southeastern.
The Privateers enter the final month of the regular season in the fourth spot in the Southland tournament. The match against Southeastern features a Lady Lions squad that is currently a half-game ahead of UNO for the three seed in the conference tournament, which starts on Apr. 22.
UNO's last match was a 7-0 win over Grambling at home on Monday as
Anja Luethi returned to the lineup after missing the last three matches. The Privateers were scheduled to play an SEC foe in Missouri, but the match was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Privateers are undefeated (6-0) at home.
Arkansas State has not won a match yet on the season and enters with an 0-13 mark. The Red Wolves have played one Southland opponent, losing 6-1 to Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 12. The last match Arkansas State played was on March 26 against Texas State.
Southeastern (11-5, 5-3 Southland) last played on March 26 when they split a doubleheader. The Lady Lions defeated LSU-Alexandria after falling to Northwestern State earlier in the day. Renee Villarreal is 12-3 on the season and 7-1 in conference matches. Villarreal and Dalina Dahlmans have combined for a 12-2 mark in doubles.
