BOX SCORE
HOUSTON, Texas – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team (14-5, 7-4 Southland) earned singles wins at the top two spots in the rotation, but it wasn't enough in a 5-2 loss to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (20-6, 9-2) on Saturday.
Â
The Privateers had lost the doubles point when the two teams originally started the match in New Orleans. Trailing 1-0,
Anna Segarra Rius and
Soledad Calderon Arroyo each picked up victories for UNO in their conference finale.
Â
Segarra earned a straight sets win, defeating Erin Walker 6-3, 6-2. Calderon had a much longer match, but was able to outlast Kaysie Hermsdorf. After losing the first set 6-3, Calderon came back to win the second set 6-4 and win the tiebreaking third set 13-11.
Â
The Wildcats were able to sweep the board at the No. 3 through 6 position to stave off the UNO rally. Lucile Pothier was pushed to a tiebreaker in the second set, but was able to hold on for a straight set win. The rest of the spots resulted in straight set wins for Abilene Christian.
Â
With the result, UNO will now enter the Southland tournament as the five seed and will play McNeese State in the first round.
Â
The Privateers will be back home for Senior Day against Xavier on Monday. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
